The environmental impact from both domestic and commercial laundries is significant, largely due to the considerable amount of energy used by these facilities for heating water and drying textiles.

The purpose of this study is to quantify the environmental impact by using estimation models focusing on the European and American markets, covering: laundry production, energy consumption, carbon production, water consumption, detergent consumption, and microfibre production.
